Summertime and the livin’ is easy…

…according to George Gershwin.

The traditional school year has come to a close.

The professional learning for most of you continues through the summer.  There are workshops, AQ courses, conferences, online courses….

For those who are involved with the IT side of education, the summer is very busy as it’s the best time to work on networks and equipment.  And, there’s always additional training and courses to be completed.

The BIT Organizing Committee will meet again (online) at the end of August.  Everything’s coming together nicely with expectations high for another successful conference in November.

Registration for BIT16 is now OPEN! Presenters are reminded that they do need to register as attendees using the registration code that was previously sent to them.

If you haven’t heard, our keynote speakers this year are Shelley Sanchez Terrell and Jesse Brown. Shelley is a teacher trainer, elearning specialist, and the author of The 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers: Small Steps to Transform Your Teaching and Learning to Go: Lesson Ideas for Teaching with Mobile Devices, Cell Phones and BYOT. You can learn more about her by visiting her website: .

Educators in Ontario would know Jesse as one of the founders of Bitstrips for Schools, and more recently Bitmoji. However, he is also a well-known media critic who has worked for CBC radio, hosted his own podcast and written for newspapers and magazines. As a “disruptive journalist” he is now host and publisher of Canadaland a crowd-funded news site focused on media.

If you would like to do some reading this summer, the BIT16Reads Book Club will be of interest to you.

Sylvia Duckworth is leading a team that will be creating a customized BreakoutEDU event.  It is being held as a social event on Thursday evening.  It is limited to the first 100 people who select the event when they register.  Sylvia is also presenting a session on BreakoutEDU on Friday – details are in Lanyrd.

Lanyrd, your electronic conference planner, is a work in progress.  All the confirmed sessions have been entered and you can see the draft schedule:   There may be a few minor changes and updates over the summer but the current schedule provides an excellent overview of the learning offered this year.  Session leaders will shortly be receiving instructions on how to use Lanyrd so that they can update their sessions throughout the summer and as the conference approaches.

Our Wednesday sessions will again be half and full day workshop style sessions but we have expanded the Minds on Media session to include approximately 30 stations. It will truly be a “Mega” Minds On Media event this year. For more information on Mega Minds On Media and the other Wednesday workshops, please check out

In the meantime, stay true to George Gershwin…
Relax.  Enjoy time with your family and friends.  Get registered for BIT2016. Keep learning!
